Gun Model
A Manufacturers Designation for Firearm. Some ‘models’ are assigned a number, or a name, others are the year they were made available for sale or adopted by a government for military service, even if they didn’t actually get fielded for a year or two after that.

Barrel Length
The Overall length of the barrel from the Chamber to the muzzle. Barrels under. According to the ATF, there are no restrictions on the barrel length a handgun can possess. NOTE: The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) defines a short-barreled rifle as “a rifle having one or more barrels less than sixteen inches in length and any weapon made from a rifle (whether by alteration, modification, or otherwise) if such weapon, as modified, has an overall length of less than twenty-six inches.”

Barrel Material
The base material that the barrel is produced from. The metal of choice for saltwater fishing applications, its corrosion resistance is legendary. You won’t worry about rust with a stainless-steel rifle barrel. The one benefit of Chrome Moly is its ability to dissipate heat. With a Single Shot, we prefer all weather Vs heat dissipation

Stainless Steel |
Barrel Finish
If the barrel is Stainless-steel, we finish the barrel by bead blasting the outside. This gives the barrel a consistent finish. We do offer a variety of Blued finishes for our Chrome Moly Barrels to provide corrosion resistance and/or sex appeal.

Barrel Grade
(DF added) SSK offers two barrel quality grades, Hunter and Premium. Hunter grade normally uses barrel blanks produced by Green Mountain Barrels. These blanks have shown excellent accuracy potential and clean easily. Premium grade barrels normally use Douglas barrel blanks equating to optimum accuracy. Defining a qualitative difference has been difficult as Hunter barrels have achieved accuracy equal to Premium barrels. The precision of the chambering, the fit of the barrel to the receiver, and the location of the scope base all effect accuracy as well and regardless of the grade, SSK performs these operations to the same exacting standards

Hunter |
Barrel Contour
The outside dimensions of the barrel. We offer barrels that will taper from the chamber end to the muzzle end or the outside dimension can be the same from end-to-end. Some frames and/or cartridge designations may limit your options.

Forend Spacing
We offer three Forend configurations – Handgun, Carbine and Muzzleloader. General Rule: Handgun barrels, or barrels less than 16.25 inches in length, positions the threaded inserts which are attached to the barrel using a dovetailed slot so that any G1 or G2 handgun forend will fit on our barrel. If the barrel is 16.25 inches or longer, we use two dovetails spaced accordingly. There are exceptions to this rule or course.
