Gun Model
A Manufacturers Designation for Firearm. Some ‘models’ are assigned a number, or a name, others are the year they were made available for sale or adopted by a government for military service, even if they didn’t actually get fielded for a year or two after that.

Cartridge Fitment
The designated Cartridge or Fixed Ammunition that the Barrel is chambered to accept. Ex: 44 Magnum

Barrel Length
The Overall length of the barrel from the Chamber to the muzzle. Barrels under. According to the ATF, there are no restrictions on the barrel length a handgun can possess. NOTE: The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) defines a short-barreled rifle as “a rifle having one or more barrels less than sixteen inches in length and any weapon made from a rifle (whether by alteration, modification, or otherwise) if such weapon, as modified, has an overall length of less than twenty-six inches.”

Barrel Material
The base material that the barrel is produced from. The metal of choice for saltwater fishing applications, its corrosion resistance is legendary. You won’t worry about rust with a stainless-steel rifle barrel. The one benefit of Chrome Moly is its ability to dissipate heat. With a Single Shot, we prefer all weather Vs heat dissipation

Barrel Finish
If the barrel is Stainless-steel, we finish the barrel by bead blasting the outside. This gives the barrel a consistent finish. We do offer a variety of Blued finishes for our Chrome Moly Barrels to provide corrosion resistance and/or sex appeal.

Barrel Grade
(DF added) SSK offers two barrel quality grades, Hunter and Premium. Hunter grade normally uses barrel blanks produced by Green Mountain Barrels. These blanks have shown excellent accuracy potential and clean easily. Premium grade barrels normally use Douglas barrel blanks equating to optimum accuracy. Defining a qualitative difference has been difficult as Hunter barrels have achieved accuracy equal to Premium barrels. The precision of the chambering, the fit of the barrel to the receiver, and the location of the scope base all effect accuracy as well and regardless of the grade, SSK performs these operations to the same exacting standards

Hunter |
Barrel Twist Rate
The rate of spin inside your rifle barrel. For instance, a twist rate of 1:8, which is common in subsonic applications, means that the rifle will spin the bullet once over every 8-inches of rifling. If that rate isn’t fast enough, your bullet may not travel with much stability. This can lead to tumbling and inaccuracy down range. We design our barrels with a twist rate that allows our customers to use the widest range of ammunition options. Whether you are looking for a Subsonic or High Velocity bullet.

1-16 |
Barrel Contour
The outside dimensions of the barrel. We offer barrels that will taper from the chamber end to the muzzle end or the outside dimension can be the same from end-to-end. Some frames and/or cartridge designations may limit your options.

Threading/Brake
Our Standard Stock Barrels are produced with a thread on the muzzle-end. This allows our customer to attach a suppressor or brake without having to take your barrel to a gunsmith. We also provided a thread protector. If you prefer to have an unthreaded barrel, you can visit our Barrel Configurator to design a custom barrel.

Forend Spacing
We offer three Forend configurations – Handgun, Carbine and Muzzleloader. General Rule: Handgun barrels, or barrels less than 16.25 inches in length, positions the threaded inserts which are attached to the barrel using a dovetailed slot so that any G1 or G2 handgun forend will fit on our barrel. If the barrel is 16.25 inches or longer, we use two dovetails spaced accordingly. There are exceptions to this rule or course.

Gun Platform
The general classification of the Frame type or Receiver that is used to build the firearm. For example, is the frame designed as a single shot handgun or rifle using an SSK-50/Contender frame which will only allow for one shot at a time. In contrast, an AR15 upper (frame) would be considered a semi-automatic.
|
Single Shot |
Gun Type
This designation is controlled by the length of the barrel. For example, a 10 inch barrel would be considered a handgun since it would attach to a handgun stock; whereas a 24 inch barrel would be attached to a rifle stock and designed accordingly.
